BAD BRAMSTEDT

 Origin/meaning:
Bramstedt received town rights before 1400 and city rights in 1910. At the same time the prefix Bad was added. The oldest know seal dates from the late 14th century and shows the nettle-leaf arms of the Duchy of Holstein, to which the city at the time belonged. In 1877 the town adopted arms with the so-called Roland of Bramstedt, the Roland being a historical figure, his statue can be seen in the town square, see image below. The present (above) arms date from 1957 in which the arms are designed more according to heraldic rules, with the Roland holding the arms of Holstein.
