BAD SALZUFLEN
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
Origin/meaning: Salzuflen received city rights from the Counts of Sternberg already before 1322. Salt mining has been of great importance already in the 13th century, and the oldest seal already shows the same composition of the present arms, a salt well and the star of the Counts of Sternberg. The composition was placed in a shield in the 16th century. The colours have varied during the years, as can be seen in th eimage below.
Literature : Stadler, K. : Deutsche Wappen - Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Angelsachsen Verlag, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
