Danmarks Kommunevåbener Danish Civic Heraldry RY Region : Midtjylland Amt (until 2007) : Århus (until 1970 Skanderborg) Additions : 1966 Alling-Tulstrup, Dover, Gammel Rye, Låsby Incorporated into : 2007 Skanderborg Origin/meaning: The arms were officially registered in 1981. The arms refer to the many lakes and streams in the municipality, with a grebe swimming on a wavy base. The arms were designed after a local competition, which resulted in 66 different designs. A former roadsign with the arms (2005) (source) The previous arms were devised in 1952 and are shown below. The arms show the monogram of King Christian III, who was crowned in Ry church in 1534. The staff symbolises the large Øm monastery and the seven leaves symbolise the seven lakes in the municipality. Literature : Achen, 1982
