VEJLE AMTSKOMMUNE
 Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted in 1959. The two red hills on the division line are the so-called Jelling hills. They already appeared on the medieval seal of Tørril county. The hills itself are famous graves of the first Danish Kings and date from the 10th century. The two axes also symbolise the two kings buried at Jelling : Gorm the Old and his wife
Queen Thyra. Jelling is in the Vejle district and has been very important in Danish history. The cross indicates that King Harald Bluetooth established Christianity in Denmark.
Literature : Achen, 1982
