KARLOVAC
Origin/meaning:
The coat of arms was granted by King Joseph II on 8th October 1781. The first quarter shows the arms of Croatia, the second two anchors, symbol of the harbour, and the third contains a landscape showing the fortified city of Karlovac on a green hill between two silver conjoining rivers Kupa and Korana, in the chief are the sun and moon. The escutcheon shows the monogram of King Joseph II. The mermaid supporters are again a symbol of the harbour.
Above the images of the arms of Karlovac as shown by Ströhl (1904) and in the Kava Hag albums (1930s)
