ČAZMA
Origin/meaning:
The coat of arms is of modern design and shows in a red shield on a green mount a white church with two blue roofed bell-towers between ruined yellow embattled walls and in base a blue wavy line. The wavy line represents the river Česma (which is only a variations of the city name). The parish church of St. Mary Magdalene is a romanic church with gothic elements, being the bigest romanic based church in Croatia, baroquised in 18th cnetury. In 13th century the place received the marketplace rights. In the 16th century Čazma was conquered by Turks and was made capital of a sanjak (soon moved to Pakrac). The town was liberated in the 17th century and refortified. The fortifications seen on the arms are no longer visible today.
