SAN FERNANDO
Origin/meaning :
The green refers to the predominantly agricultural character of Colchagua (old name of the state, now called 'VI Region'). The two silver bands represent the Antivero and Tinguiririca rivers, between which San Fernando is located.
In the middle band there are the golden letters S and F, plus an old golden crown between them, in memory of the Saint King Don Fernando III from Leon and Castilla, deceased on May 31st, 1252. Under his tenure Leon and Castilla united definitely (1230) and Castillian (Spanish) was established as the official language. The city of San Fernando derives its name from the monarch, who is also its patron saint.
The crown refers to Count Don Jose Antonio Manso de Velasco, founder of San Fernando on May 17th, 1742, Governor of Chile, Lieutenant of the Royal Armies and Viceroy of Peru.
