Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted in 1987, and are based on a design by the late Alfred Bibbs which was first adopted in 1936.
Tthe shield evokes the situation and natural beauty of the municipality. Using the blue and white of the sea and sky, the Chevron is a symbol for the local mountains, the ships for maritime commerce and seaside recreation and the martlets, heraldic sparrow, for the local heritage in the animal kingdom.

The crest consists of maple leaves and dogwoods symbolizing national and provincial ties and is a pun on one of West Vancouver's most historic names Hollyburn.

The silver cougars with their collars of fir and golden cones represent the varied flora and fauna found throughout West Vancouver. They stand on a compartment which represents the municipality's rocky shoreline with mountain streams flowing down to meet the waters of the inlet.

The Motto CONSILIO ET ANIMIS means By Wisdom and Courage
