Canadian Civic Heraldry SASKATCHEWAN Granted : 1906, 1986 Origin/meaning : The shield displays the royal lion and three gold wheat sheaves, symbolizing Saskatchewan agriculture. Below the shield is the provincial motto "Multis E Gentibus Vires", Latin for "From many peoples strength". The colours chosen are significant. Red suggests the fires that swept the prairies before the advent of civilization. Green represents the luxuriant grass and other vegetation, and gold is the symbol for fields of ripening grain.
