Civic Heraldry of Bosnia and Herzegovina

SARAJEVO CANTON

Coat of arms of Sarajevo Canton

Origin/meaning:
The above arms were adopted in 1999.
The nine eight-pointed stars representing the communities of the canton, and a rosette combining the ornament from the Sarajevo cathedral, and the door-knocker from an oriental house called Svrzina kuca.

Previously the canton used the arms below.

Coat of arms of Sarajevo Canton

The nine triangles symbolise again the nine communities in the canton, and are adapted from similar roof representations in the coat of arms of the city of Sarajevo. The bridge is taken from the Sarajevo coat of arms also, and the symbol at the base is the sign of Sarajevo 1984 Winter Olypmic Games (minus Olympic rings), representing a snow-flake.
