Origin/meaning :
The above arms were officially granted on October 27, 1928. The complete arms show St. Martin as a supporter behind the shield.
The lion is the lion of the Overstraeten family. The estate of Welden was bought in 1715 by Nicolaas van Overstraeten, and his family owned the village until 1793. St. Martin is the local patron saint.

On August 4, 1818 the Dutch government granted the village as arms a silver shield with St. Martin on a horse, cutting his cloak for a beggar, all in proper colours. Unfortunately I have no image of these arms.
