SINT LAUREINS
Province : Oost Vlaanderen
![]()
Origin/meaning : The old municipality of Sint Laureins never used its own arms. The new arms show in the right half the blue bend of the Brugse Vrije, a medieval entity with specific freedom and rights. It represents the villages of Sint-Jan-in-Eremo, Sint-Laureins, Sint-Margriete and Waterland-Oudeman, which all belonged to the Vrije. The Vrije used the bar since the 16th century. The left half shows the old arms of Watervliet, with a small change in colours and a more historically correct five-pointed star. Literature : Viane-Wouters and Warlop, 2002. |
