SINT LAUREINS

Province : Oost Vlaanderen
Additions : 1976 Sint Jan in Eremo, Sint Margriete, Waterland-Oudeman, Watervliet

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on July 8, 1986.

The old municipality of Sint Laureins never used its own arms. The new arms show in the right half the blue bend of the Brugse Vrije, a medieval entity with specific freedom and rights. It represents the villages of Sint-Jan-in-Eremo, Sint-Laureins, Sint-Margriete and Waterland-Oudeman, which all belonged to the Vrije. The Vrije used the bar since the 16th century.

The left half shows the old arms of Watervliet, with a small change in colours and a more historically correct five-pointed star.
