Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on December 30, 1820 and changed on December 23, 1849.

The oldest known seal of the council dates from 1694 and shows the patron saint of the village, Saint Catherine, accompanied by a broken wheel.
In 1820 the village received arms with only the broken wheel, not the saint itself. In 1840 the beet of the beet of the Waasland region was added. For the history of the beet, see Sint Niklaas.
