MENEN
Province : West Vlaanderen

Origin/meaning : The arms were granted on May 30, 1953. The new arms replaced the arms granted in 1824 and confirmed on April 7, 1838, which showed the chevrons in black instead of red. The arms are derived from the arms of the 13th century Lords of Menen. The arms have been used by the city since many centuries and appeared already on the 16th century seal of the city. The arms have never changed since, but were accidentally granted in the wrong colours in 1824. Literature : Servais, 1955 |
