Origin/meaning :

The arms represent the five municipalities that were joined in the 1970ies to form the community of Lanaken: Lanaken (or Pietersheim, a former German imperial territory), Neerharen (a former Liege territory), Rekem (a former German imperial territory), Veldwezelt and Gellik (two former Looz territories). The coat is protected by Saint Ursula (of Lanaken) and heir maidens.
