Belgische Gemeentewapens - Armories communales de Belgique Belgian Civic Heraldry HERK-DE-STAD Province : Limburg Additions : 1970 Donk, 1975 Schulen, (Berbroek) Origin/meaning : The arms were granted on December 3, 1981. The arms are a combination of the old arms of Herk, shown below and granted on August 21, 1871, and the arms of Schulen. The arms show in the base the arms of the County Loon. Herk belonged from the 13th century until the late 18th century to Loon. The oldest seal of the town dates from 1307 and already shows only the arms of Loon. Only in 1871 the upper part, showing St. Martin, the local patron saint, was added. The arms of 1871. Literature : Servais, 1955; new image provided by Rudy Vanhorenbeeck, Belgium.
