Origin/meaning :
The old (left) arms were granted on November 10, 1819 and confirmed on December 22, 1840. The present (right) arms were granted on November 21, 1989.
The pigeon is derived from the arms of the Lords of Kerchove, barons of Eksaarde, Lords of Dentergem in the 17th and 18th century.

In the new arms the old arms are shown in the chief. The lower half shows the arms of Wakken and three lions for Markegem and Oeselgem.
