Belgische Gemeentewapens - Armories communales de Belgique Belgian Civic Heraldry DEINZE Province : Oost Vlaanderen Additions : 1970 Astene, Petegem aan de Leie, Zeveren; 1976 Bachte-Maria-Leerne, Gottem, Grammene, Meigem, Sint Martens Leerne, Vinkt, Wontergem Origin/meaning : The arms were granted in 1818 and confirmed on June 18, 1838. Deinze was already an important town in the 12th century. The oldest known seal of the city dates from the 16th century and already shows the eagle with the three roses. The origin of the eagle, nor of the roses is known. The arms have never changed since and were shown in many illustrations and seals during the centuries. Literature : Servais, 1955
