The National Arms

Belgium is divided in 3 federal states (Gewesten). The Gewesten are : Vlaanderen, Wallonie and Brussels. Vlaanderen and Wallonie are further divided in provinces, five in each.

Besides the Gewesten, Belgium also has three language communities (Taalgemeenschappen). Approximately 60% of the Belgians speak Dutch (Flemish), 38% speak French (Walloon) and 2% speak German. Each language community has its own arms :
Dutch-speaking Community (Vlaanderen and Dutch-speaking parts in the Brussels Gewest)
French-speaking Community (most of Wallonie and French-speaking parts in the Brussels gewest)
German-speaking Community (mainly in Liège province, part of the Gewest Wallonie)

Obsolete municipalities that used no arms have no own pages, but are linked to the municipality they were incorporated into. All municipalities are listed under their official names. Synonyms in the other language(s) are not included in the alphabetical list. Prefixes as De, Het, 's, L', Le, La, Un, Une are placed behind the name.
