Belgische Gemeentewapens - Armories communales de Belgique Belgian Civic Heraldry BEGIJNENDIJK Province : Vlaams-Brabant Additions : 1976 Betekom Origin/meaning : The arms were officially granted on July 7, 1987. The arms are a combination of the previous arms of Begijnendijk and the arms of Betekom. The black fleur-de-lys is taken from the arms of Betekem, but the supporter of Betekom was replaced bt St. Lucia, the patron saint of Begijnendijk. The previous arms of Begijnendijk showed only the image of St. Lucia. These arms were granted on April 7, 1819 and confirmed on October 19, 1840. The colours were unknown in 1816, so the arms were granted in the Dutch national colours, as Belgium was part of the Netherlands until 1830.
