BOXHILL

State : Victoria

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on April 1st, 1977.
The open book of learning symbolizes the numerous schools and teaching institutions in Box Hill, as well as the municipal Library. The sword of St Paul portrays the Christian influence, while the cross fitchee alludes to the numerous churches in the city. The clasped hands of friendship refer to the friendly spirit of the welfare, cultural and community organizations in Box Hill. The residential nature of the suburbs is represented by the blue and gold border with red roses.

The white horse has long been the emblem of Box Hill, and the artists' brushes symbolize the Box Hill artsts' camp, which was established on the banks of Gardiner's Creek in the 1880s. The mural crowns designate local government.
