Origin/meaning :
Tagaste, the old name of the town, was the birthplace of the great theologican and bishop St. Augustinius. The mitre and crosier represent the bishop. The olive tree in the upper half of the arms is a famous tree in the town, and it was the tree under which St. Augustinius used to sit and think.
