Civic Heraldry of Algeria

SIDI BEL ABBES

Origin/meaning :
The castle in the first quarter represents the former fortress of the (French) foreign legion, which was stationed in the town. The second and third quarter symbolise the main agricultural crops, grapes and wheat. The fourth quarter shows a mosque, as the town is named aftera religious chief, Sidi Bel Abbes.
