Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in September 2009.

The arms combine elements from the two main historical territories in the district; the lion of the Estate of Pleissen and the two bars of the Counts of Schönburg.

The previous arms were adopted on April 22, 1991 and officially granted on June 1, 1991.

The first quarter shows the rose of the Lords of Windenfels. The second quarter shows the divided shield of the Von der Planitz family. The third quarter shows the arms of the Counts of Schönburg. The fourth shows the swans from the city of Zwickau. The lion in the escutcheon is the lion of the Vassals of Weida.
