Origin/meaning

The above arms were granted on October 16, 1996.

The meaning of the arms is not clear. The oldest known seal of the city dates from the 15th centuary and shows a tree with two horizontal branches placed in front of the trunk. In a l9th century seal the upper branch was replaced by an arrow or a pitchfork. During the 19th and 20th century the city used as arms the composition of the oldest seal, with the two branches.

In 1996 the arms with the pitchfork were re-introduced.
