Zons received city rights in 1373, but the village used seals at least 40 years before. The oldest seals show St.Martin, the patron saint of the city, with the cross of the bishops of Köln, who ruled the area. The arms as such thus never changed through the centuries, but sometimes the saint was shown mirrorwise and the positions of the cross and the beggar have changed regularly during the years.

Origin/meaning

Zons received city rights in 1373, but the village used seals at least 40 years before. The oldest seals show St.Martin, the patron saint of the city, with the cross of the bishops of Köln, who ruled the area. The arms as such thus never changed through the centuries, but sometimes the saint was shown mirrorwise and the positions of the cross and the beggar have changed regularly during the years.
