Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 6, 1992.

The upper part of the arms show the arms of [{Assenede]], as historically the municipality belonged (partly) to the Assenede Ambacht (region). The lower half symbolises the Gent-Terneuze canal, which played a major role in th edevelopment of the village. The silver is the canal, the green the green fields, which also indicates the (historical) importance of agriculture for the municipality.
