Origin/meaning

The arms show a wolf's hook, a metal device placed in a piece of meat. The meat was placed as bait for wolves, and it was aimed to cut the intestines of the wolf, when it had eaten the meat. The symbol was chosen as a canting symbol, the name means (in German), place of the wolf.

Currently only the hook is used on a golden filed. Historical arms show a silver field for the hook and with the local patron saint, St. Peter, as a supporter, the whole again placed on a golden shield.
