Wappen von Wittenburg

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 10, 1858.

Wittenburg received city rights in the early 13th century and belonged to the County Schwerin until 1201, when it became a possession of the Dukes of Mecklenburg.

The arms were officially adopted in 1858, but were based on the oldest seals of the city, known since 1296. The arms show a castle and two figures, described as tapeworms, taken from the arms of a branch of the Counts of Schwerin.
