WINKLERN
State : Kärnten
District : Spittal an der Drau
Additions : 1973-1991 Mörtschach
Official blazon
In Rot über grünem Schildfuß ein goldener Turm mit schwarz gerahmten Fenstern (Form des Turmes von Winklern).
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on May 2, 1962 and confirmed on July 3, 1973.
The arms show the local Mautturm, a typical landmark in the town. The tower probably dates from the 13th century amd is shown in the arms in the situation around 1865. Nowadays the tower has a roof.
The colours have no historical meaning and were chosen arbitrarily.
The official grant, shown below, states the base as straight, but the image shows clearly a curved base. The grant also does not mention the black colour of the door/gate of the tower.
