WIEN-ZWISCHENBRÜCKEN

State : Wien (Vienna)

Wappen von Wien-Zwischenbrücken/Arms (crest) of Wien-Zwischenbrücken
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms show the attributes of St John Nepomuk, the saint's red tongue within a halo and five five-pointed stars. St John Nepomuk is the patron saint of bridges, the name Zwischen brücken (Between the bridges) referring to a settlement on an island between the main and a side arm of the Danube that came to lie "between the bridges" once the first bridges were built from Vienna proper to the left bank of the Danube.
