WIEN-WIEDEN

State : Wien (Vienna)

Wappen von Wien-Wieden

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms show a willow, a pictorial translation of the popular interpretation of the village's name ("Wied" = "Weide" = willow); however, the name derives from the property of St Stephen's parish ("Widum") to whom the area belonged from 1137 to 1723.
