In Silber ein nimbierter Heiliger im blauen Mantel, in der Rechten ein erhobenes silbernes Messer. in der Linken einen Stab haltend; zu seinen Füßen ein schwarzer Schild, darin ein schrägrechts gestellter goldener Ast mit drei goldenen Ahornblättern.

Origin/meaning

The arms first appear on the local seal dating from the middle of the 16^th century. The arms show the local patron saint, St. Bartholomew, standing behind the shield with the arms of the Lords of Werthern, who acquired parts of the County Wiehe in 1453 and the complete county in 1461.
