State : Schleswig-Holstein
District (Kreis) : Rendsburg-Eckernförde (until 1970 Rendsburg)
Amt : Amt Achterwehr

Wappen von Westensee/Arms (crest) of Westensee
Official blazon
German Von Silber und Blau schräg geteilt. Oben ein sitzendes, in den Vorderpfoten eine schwarze Nuß haltendes rotes Eichhörnchen, unten fünf silberne Wellenfäden.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 21, 1990.

The squirrel is taken from the important Von Westensee family from the 13th century. They had their castle on an island in the Westensee lake. The lake itself is symbolised by the waves.

The six blue bars refer to the six estates that had fishing rights in the lake : Annenhof, Bossee, Deutsch-Nienhof, Klein Nordsee, Marutendorf and Westensee.
