Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on April 6, 1970.

The arms are identical to the arms of Amt Wenden. The arms show the patron saint of Wenden, St John Baptist, with his attributes, the lamb and stick. The small shield in front of the saint is again the arms of the State of Köln.

The previous arms of Wenden were granted on April 20, 1937.

The old armsshow in the upper half symbols for mining (axe) and protection (arrow). The lower half shows the cross of the State of Köln, as the city historically belonged to the State of Köln.
