VILOBÍ DEL PENEDÈS

Region : Catalonia
Province : Barcelona

Vilobip.jpg

Official blazon

Escut caironat: de sinople, un gos d'argent amb un pa d'or a la boca. Per timbre, una corona mural de poble.

Origin/meaning

These arms have been officially granted on 25th July 1991.

The dog biting a piece of bread is the attribute of St. Roch, the patron saint of the village; it represents the animal that accompanied the saint in his pilgrimage. The colour Vert is for the vineyards (the village is placed in the famous wine region of Penedès), and the dog's Argent symbolizes one of the main resources of Vilobí: gypsum, that possibly gave the name to the village (from Latin "villa albina", white town).
