VERDAL

Province : Trøndelag (until 2018 Nord-Trøndelag)

Arms of Verdal
Official blazon
Norwegian

På rød bunn et gull kors, utbøyd og tilspisset.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 15, 1972.

The cross is taken from a large painting in the Trondheim Cathedral, in which the dead of King Olav Haraldsson is shown. He died in battle in Stiklestad, now in Verdal municipality. In the painting he holds a shield with the typical cross. To commemorate the battle the cross was taken as arms for the municipality.
