Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 2, 1929.

In the 12th century Vercelli was a powerful town with self government and a member of the Lombard League. The symbol of the league was a red cross in a silver field.

The latin motto POTIUS MORI QUAM FOEDARI means "Rather to die than to be dishonoured".
