Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 12, 1966 and confirmed on October 31, 1975.

The arms are based on the arms of the medieval family Von Vechelde, who originated from the village and who were mentioned in 1333. Later they had to leave the local castle and settled in Braunschweig. The family became extinct in the 19th century. The arms of the family showed a silver shield, with silver roses on a red bend. The municipality adopted the composition in the colours of the Duchy (and later District) of Braunschweig, to which the area historically belonged.

After the merger in 1974 it was decided to keep the old arms and not to design new arms for the municipality.
