The arms were officially granted on December 7, 2006.
The arms were officially granted on April 12, 1792 and again on December 7, 2006.
 
The arms should symbolize the readiness to protect the state with weapons. Also the local legend about the name of the town could be reflected: once the legendary great city Gromanenas stood there, but many wars (“war” was called “vaina” in local Samogitian dialect) destroyed the city, and the faint remains were called Vainutas (the name could be understood as “petty of war” or “broken by wars”).

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 12, 1792 and again on December 7, 2006.

The arms should symbolize the readiness to protect the state with weapons. Also the local legend about the name of the town could be reflected: once the legendary great city Gromanenas stood there, but many wars (“war” was called “vaina” in local Samogitian dialect) destroyed the city, and the faint remains were called Vainutas (the name could be understood as “petty of war” or “broken by wars”).
