Geviert von Gold und Blau: 1: ein einwärtsgekehrter, rotbewehrter schwarzer Löwe; 2: ein siebenmal von Silber und Rot geteilter Löwe; 3: ein einwärtsgekehrter siebenmal von Silber und Rot geteilter Löwe; 4: ein rotbewehrter schwarzer Löwe.

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from around 1400.

The arms show the lions of Meissen (black) and Thüringen (striped). The town received city rights in the 13th century from Balthasar von Meissen and later belonged to Thüringen.
