Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 30, 1971.

Uedem received city rights in 1359 by count Johann von Kleve, and the first seal, which dates from the same time, shows already the castle with the arms of Kleve on the main gate. The bull as a crest was the crest at the time of the counts of Kleve. The arms are thus based on the old seal.
