Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on February 25, 1792 and again on December 9, 1998.
The 1792 arms refer to the traditions of linen business and of export to other countries, as well the motto “With trade cities grow”.
In the early 20th century variants with linen sheaves (not bundles) were used.
The modern arms are based on the picture of 1792, with some improvements. The motto is translated to Lithuanian.
