French De gueules au tau d'or.
English Gules, a tau-cross Or.

Origin/meaning

The Tau cross in the arms is most likely the letter T and not the symbol of St. Anthony. The Tau appeared already in the 14th century on the seal of the city.

When Toul was part of the German Empire, the city used the Imperial eagle, with the Tau as an inescutcheon on its chest. When the city became part of France in 1552, the eagle was removed and ever since the city uses the arms above. The arms may be decorated with the War Cross 1914-1918 and the War Cross 1939-1945.
