Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on January 15, 1912 and again on August 4, 2004.
The origin of the arms is not known. Its composition indicates that the arms are derived from an old seal. However, the oldest seal, dating from 1289, shows a shield with the eagle of Brandenburg. The second known seal dates from the early 19th century and shows the Prussian eagle, with a sword and a balance in its claws. The arms with the castle appear only in the late 19th century.
