Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 11, 1955.

The arms combine symbols derived from the arms of two important families in the town. The stars are taken from the arms of the Von Calven family, who owned the estates of Stockelsdorf and Mori from 1400-1636. The arrows are derived from the arms of the Von Lübbers family. This family started the industrialisation of the city in the late 18th century. The colours are derived from the arms of the State of Lübeck, to which the area historically belonged.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
