Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in 1968. The arms show a golden square with two hammers. These symbols refer to an old tradition in the village. When a meeting in the local meeting hall (the Thie) was to be held, the mayor struck with two hammers on a large wooden square plate hanging in the hall to summon the villagers to the meeting. The same system was used in case of emergencies, hence the name Hillebille for the plank (Hille=fast in the local dialect). This tradition is thus symbolised in the arms.
