Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
SPRENDLINGEN
State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Offenbach
Incorporated into : 1977 Dreieich
Origin/meaning
The deer in the arms first appears on the seal of the town in 1714. In 1951 the arms were officially granted, and based on the seal. The only change is that in the seal the deer stands on a flat bottom, not on a mountain.
The origin of the deer comes from a local story. The old name of the area in the 15th century was Hirschsprung. This name was derived from a huge deer that managed to jump over a wagon with hay.
