Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on August 21, 1930.

In the early 2000s the following arms were used by the town, but these were later discontinued and the 1930 arms were restored.

The first attempt for arms was made in 1856 when the arms below were proposed. These arms show three magpies (canting for the name in Russian) and in a free canton the Bessarabian provincial arms. These arms were not approved.

At the end of the 19th century a castle appeared as a city symbol on regional stamps. On March 18, 1914 the town received official arms with the castle and a free canton the Bessarabian provincial arms.
