SELM

State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Unna (until 1975 Lüdinghausen)
Additions : 1975 Amt Bork (partly), Bork

Wappen von Selm/Arms (crest) of Selm
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 1, 1977.

The linden is taken from the old arms of Selm (see below), the roses are taken from the arms of the Amt Bork.

The old arms were officially granted on November 14, 1970 and were newly devised as no old arms or seals were known.

Wappen von Selm/Arms (crest) of Selm

The tree in the arms is a linden tree, and symbolises the local court which was traditionally held in the early Middle Ages under a linden tree.
The house is a gate to the old Selm Estate, part of the Werden an der Ruhr Abbey.

The colours are derived from the colours of the State of Münster, as the area was part of the State of Münster.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
